Best Candle Labels and Warning Stickers
You need two labels, not one, and the cheap one is the one that has to survive oil on the base of a warm jar.

Labels are the last purchase in candle making and the first thing a buyer reads. They are also the one supply where the cheapest option fails in a specific, predictable way, and where a listing will happily make a compliance claim it cannot support.
You are buying two different labels
This trips up almost everyone. The pre-printed warning sticker and your own product label do different jobs, sit in different places, and cannot substitute for each other.
| Warning label | Product label | |
|---|---|---|
| What it says | Fixed, pre-printed burn warnings | Fragrance name, net weight, your business name and contact |
| Where it goes | The base of the container | The side, or the lid |
| Bought as | A roll of hundreds, pre-printed | Blank stock you print or write on |
| Exposure | Wax splatter, fragrance oil, a warm jar | Handling and display |
| Material that matters | Waterproof, oil-resistant film | Whatever prints well |
A candle with only a warning sticker is not labeled. A candle with only a pretty printed label is not warned. Our candle safety and labeling page covers what the standards actually govern; this page is about what to buy.
Film or paper: the one specification that decides it
| Label | Material published | Diameter |
|---|---|---|
| Zonon 1000 | Film with plastic protective layer, waterproof and oil-proof | 1.5 in / 38 mm |
| CllyCnny 2000 | Waterproof and oil-resistant self-adhesive film | 1 in / 2.5 cm |
| WANBAO 1000 | Film with plastic protective layer, waterproof and oil-proof | 1.5 in |
| Zonon holographic 360 | Not published | 1.18 in / 3 cm |
| Willbond 200 | White matte paper | 1.2 in / 30 mm |
Our own labeling guide already says a paper label on a warm jar peels. This is the same advice with the published materials attached to it.
Size the label to the base, not to the jar
A 1.5 inch label is the category standard and it is too big for a small tin. The base of an 8 oz tin is not much over 3 inches and usually has a recessed center panel narrower than that; a 4 oz tin is tighter again.
- 1 inch for 4 oz tins, votives and anything with a small recessed base. One listing here publishes that size and tells you to check before ordering.
- 1.2 to 1.18 inch as the middle ground, which is where the paper and holographic options sit.
- 1.5 inch for 7, 8 and 10 oz jars, where a smaller sticker looks like an afterthought.
None of our candle jar listings publishes a base diameter, so measure one of your own containers before committing to a roll of a thousand.
A sticker does not make you compliant
One listing in these picks states that its print "meets safety compliance standards" without naming a standard. That phrasing is common in this category and it is worth being blunt about what it is worth.
- No sticker seller can certify your product. Compliance is a property of the candle and its labeling as you sell it, not of the roll of stickers you bought.
- The standards are revised. A label printed against an older revision is still a label, and it is not necessarily current.
- The text has to match what applies to you, which depends on what you sell and where. Read the current standard rather than copying another maker's label.
The National Candle Association publishes guidance on warning labels and the ASTM fire safety specification is the document behind it; both are cited on candle safety and labeling, which is the page to read before your first sale. What a pre-printed roll buys you is legible, durable warnings at a very low price. It does not buy you a compliance opinion.
How we picked
- Published material. Waterproof and oil-resistant film beats paper on the surface these labels live on. Three publish film, one publishes paper, one publishes nothing.
- Published diameter, in inches or millimeters, so you can match it to a container base.
- Published adhesive detail, especially a list of surfaces it is rated for. Two listings name glass explicitly.
- Legibility. Red and black on white carries further than black alone, and a holographic finish trades legibility for looks.
- Count and format. Rolls for volume, sheets for small batches, and enough labels that you are not re-ordering mid-batch.
- Honest claims. A listing that publishes its material plainly ranks above one that implies protection it does not state.
We have not applied these labels to a burning candle and we do not claim to. The full method is on how we pick.

Top pick · The one thing you cannot legally skip when selling
Zonon Candle Warning Labels, 1000 Pieces, 1.5 inch
Zonon

- Specific standard referenced
- Not named on the listing
What that means
The listing says it meets safety compliance standards without naming which one. Check the printed text against the current ASTM labeling standard yourself before you sell; do not take a listing's word for a compliance claim.
Adhesive that survives a warm jar is the functional requirement. A label that curls off after the third burn is not a warning label.
A thousand labels covers a very long time at hobby volume, which is fine given what they cost.
Good
- Adhesive rated for a jar that gets warm
- Enough quantity that you will never re-order
- High-contrast print that is actually legible
Less good
- Does not name the specific standard it claims to meet
- Generic text, so it may not match your specific product
Skip this one if
You are not selling or giving candles away. For your own candles a label is optional, and the burn rules matter more than the sticker.

Pick 2 · Tins, votives and any base a 1.5 inch label overhangs
CllyCnny 1 Inch Candle Warning Labels, 2000 Pack
CllyCnny
A published 1 inch diameter, which is the size that actually fits the base of a 4 oz tin. Most warning labels are 1.5 inches and hang over the edge of small containers, and this listing tells you to check the size before buying.

- Storage
- Supplied in a paper storage boxSource: Amazon Creators API item data, read 2026-09-22
What that means
The base of a 4 oz tin is not much wider than 2 inches, and a 1.5 inch sticker on it looks like a sticker rather than a label. One inch sits flat inside the recess.
A film surface rather than paper is the specification that matters most here. Wax splatter and fragrance oil both reach the base of a candle, and paper marks permanently.
Two thousand labels is more than most makers will use in a year. At this price that is fine, and the four-roll format means you are not unspooling one enormous roll.
Good
- Publishes a 1 inch diameter, the size small containers actually take
- Waterproof and oil-resistant film rather than paper
- Highest label count in these picks, in four manageable rolls
Less good
- One inch leaves little room for legible text, and the listing says the print is compact
- Too small for a large jar base, where a 1.5 inch label looks deliberate
- The warning wording is fixed, as with every pre-printed label
Skip this one if
You pour 8 oz jars and above. A 1 inch sticker on a wide base reads as an afterthought, and the 1.5 inch labels are the right proportion.

Pick 3 · The standard size in two rolls rather than one
WANBAO Candle Warning Labels, 1.5 Inch, 1000 Pack
WANBAO
The same 1.5 inch film label as the category leader, split across two rolls, in a plainer black print. Publishes its material and its size and little else.

- BlackSource: Amazon Creators API item data, read 2026-09-22
- Adhesive detail
- Described as strong viscosity; no surface list published
- Compliance claim
- None made on the listing
What that means
Two rolls of 500 is a practical format: one at the bench, one in the cupboard, rather than a single roll you unspool for a year.
A plain black print is the least decorative option here, which suits a maker whose own brand label is doing the visual work on the side of the jar.
It publishes less than the Zonon: no adhesive surface list, no compliance language. Given that compliance language on a sticker is worth very little, that is not much of a loss.
Good
- Waterproof and oil-proof film, published
- Two-roll format at the standard 1.5 inch size
- Makes no compliance claim it cannot support
Less good
- Publishes less detail than the alternatives at the same size
- Black-only print is less visible than red-and-black on a dark base
- No stated adhesive surfaces, so glass versus metal performance is unknown
Skip this one if
You want the most legible warning. A red and black print carries further on a cluttered base than plain black does.

Pick 4 · A warning label you are not embarrassed to show
Zonon Holographic Candle and Wax Melt Warning Labels, 360 Pack
Zonon
The only decorative option here, and the only one that names wax melts on the listing. It publishes a diameter and a count and, unlike the others, no waterproof claim.

- Not published on the listing
- Adhesive
- Self-adhesive, no surface list publishedSource: Amazon Creators API item data, read 2026-09-22
What that means
A holographic finish is a real decision rather than a gimmick. A warning label is the one sticker on a handmade candle that looks industrial, and this is the option that makes it look intentional.
It is the only label here that names wax melts, which matters because a clamshell needs its own warning and our wax melt pages send people looking for one.
The gap is the material. Every other film label here publishes waterproof and oil-proof; this one publishes neither, and a holographic foil is not automatically either.
Good
- The only decorative finish in these picks
- Names wax melts as an intended use
- 1.18 inch sits between the 1 inch and 1.5 inch options
Less good
- No published waterproof or oil-proof claim, unlike the film labels
- 360 is the second smallest count here
- Holographic print can be harder to read at an angle, which is the opposite of what a warning should do
Skip this one if
The label has to survive oil and wax splatter on the base of a jar. Three other labels here publish that protection and this one does not.

Pick 5 · Printing your own brand label, as opposed to the warning
Avery Round Printable Labels, 2.5 inch, 300 Pack
Avery
A general-purpose printable label that names candle labels among its uses. It is the blank half of the job: the warning sticker is pre-printed and fixed, and this is where your fragrance name, weight and business details go.

- Water or oil resistance
- Not published; this is a paper label
What that means
A pre-printed warning sticker cannot carry your fragrance name, net weight or contact details, and a label that leaves those off is not a finished product label. This is the part that does.
Avery publishes a model number and template compatibility, which is worth more than it sounds: it means you can lay the design out in software rather than by trial and error.
It is paper. On the side of a jar, away from the wax, that is usually fine; on the base, next to oil, it is not. Keep the durable film label for the base and the printed one for the side.
Good
- Named brand with a published model number and template support
- Laser and inkjet compatible, so no special printer is needed
- Names candle labels among its published uses
Less good
- Paper, with no published water or oil resistance
- 2.5 inches is large for a small tin
- You need a printer, which is a cost this page does not otherwise assume
Skip this one if
You only need the safety warning. A pre-printed warning roll is cheaper, tougher and requires no printer at all.

Pick 6 · A handwritten label that still looks deliberate
NATURALABEL Kraft Printable Labels, 2 x 4 inch, 300 Pack
NATURALABEL
Kraft-brown rectangular stock that takes a pen as well as a printer, which is the practical answer for a maker labeling a dozen candles without opening design software.

- Water or oil resistance
- Not published
What that means
Writeable stock is the difference between labeling a batch tonight and labeling it once you have set up a template. For small runs that is the whole decision.
It publishes its adhesive surfaces, which the Avery listing does not, and glass is on the list.
Kraft brown suits a plain jar and fights with a colored wax. It is a styling choice as much as a stationery one.
Good
- Takes handwriting as well as printing
- Publishes the surfaces its adhesive is rated for, including glass
- Rectangular 2 x 4 is the shape most product information fits
Less good
- No published water or oil resistance
- Kraft brown is a strong look that does not suit every candle
- Ten labels per sheet means more sheets to store than a roll
Skip this one if
You want white stock for color printing. Kraft shifts every printed color warm, and the matte white Avery sheets are the neutral option.

Pick 7 · A small batch, on the understanding that it is paper
Willbond Candle Warning Labels, 1.2 Inch, 200 Pack
WILLBOND
The only paper label in these picks, sold on sheets rather than a roll. It is the honest small-quantity option and it is also the one our own labeling guidance warns about.

- Not published; the material is stated as paper

- Container bases, as a general warning and burning instructionSource: Amazon Creators API item data, read 2026-09-22
What that means
Two hundred labels is the right quantity for someone making candles for friends rather than selling them, and every other option here starts at 360.
Paper is the problem. Our own labeling guide says a paper label on a warm jar peels, and the base of a candle is where wax and fragrance oil end up.
Sheets are easier than rolls to store flat and harder to peel one-handed. That is a genuine trade rather than a fault.
Good
- Smallest quantity here, which suits a hobby maker
- Publishes its material honestly rather than implying film
- Matte paper takes a pen if you want to add a date
Less good
- Paper, so it is the least durable option on a warm or oily base
- No waterproof or oil-proof protection published
- Cheapest per pack and the most expensive per label in these picks
Skip this one if
The candles are being sold or posted. A paper label on the base is the one that arrives marked, and the film options cost very little more.
What your own product label has to carry
The blank half of the job. Alongside the warnings, a product label normally carries the fragrance name, the net weight and the maker's name and contact details, which is a list no pre-printed sticker can cover.
- The fragrance name, so a customer can ask for the same one again. This is also why unnamed kit fragrance oils are a dead end, as what comes in a candle making kit sets out.
- The net weight, which means weighing the filled container rather than quoting the jar's rated capacity. The two differ, as what size candle jar explains.
- Your name and a contact route. A customer with a problem needs somewhere to go.
- The pour or batch date, optional but useful, and the reason writeable stock earns its place.
Two blank options are in the picks: matte white round sheets from a named brand with printer templates, and kraft rectangles that take a pen as readily as a printer. Neither publishes water or oil resistance, which is fine on the side of a jar and is the reason the durable film label still goes on the base.
Applying them so they stay on
- Label a cold, cured candle, not a warm one. Adhesive on a warm jar goes on unevenly and lifts at the edge.
- Clean the surface first. Wax film on glass is invisible and it is the most common reason a label peels within a week.
- Warning on the base, product label on the side. The warning has to survive; the product label has to be read.
- Press from the center outward to avoid trapping air, which is what makes a bubble that later becomes a lifted edge.
- Check one after a full burn. Four hours of a warm container is the only test that matters, and it costs one candle.
What we would buy
For jars, and for most people: the 1.5 inch film roll with the high-tack adhesive rated for glass, metal and plastic. It is the best-documented label here and a thousand of them costs less than a single jar of wax.
For tins and votives: the 1 inch film labels. The size is the point, and it is the only listing that publishes it.
For the product label: the matte white printable rounds if you are printing, the kraft rectangles if you are writing. And if you are selling rather than gifting, read candle safety and labeling before you print anything, because the wording is the part that matters and it is the part no sticker seller can decide for you. The label and the box are the same purchase moment, and best candle packaging boxes covers the second half of it.

Common questions
Do candles legally need a warning label?
Candles sold in the US are covered by fire safety labeling standards, and the National Candle Association publishes guidance on the warnings a label should carry. Our candle safety and labeling page sets out the framework and names the ASTM specification behind it. Read the current standard yourself rather than copying another maker's label.
What size are candle warning labels?
One and a half inches is the category standard, which suits 7 to 10 oz jars. One inch and 1.2 inch options exist for tins and votives, where a 1.5 inch sticker overhangs a small recessed base. Measure your own container base before buying a roll of a thousand.
Should candle labels be waterproof?
The warning label should be, because it lives on the base of the jar where wax splatter and fragrance oil end up and the container gets warm. Three of the labels in these picks publish a waterproof, oil-resistant film; one publishes plain paper.
Where do you put the warning label on a candle?
On the base of the container, so it stays with the candle for its whole life. Your own product label with the fragrance name, net weight and contact details goes on the side or the lid where it can be read.
Do warning labels from Amazon meet ASTM standards?
One listing in this roundup claims its print meets safety compliance standards without naming which one. Treat that as marketing. Compliance is a property of your finished product and its labeling, the standards are revised, and no sticker seller can certify your candle for you.
What should a candle label say?
The pre-printed warnings plus, on your own label, the fragrance name, the net weight of wax, and your business name and a contact route. The net weight means weighing the filled container rather than quoting the jar's rated capacity, since those differ.
Can I print my own candle labels?
Yes, and blank stock in these picks covers both routes: matte white printable rounds with printer templates, and kraft rectangles that take a pen. Neither publishes water or oil resistance, so keep a durable film label for the base and use the printed one on the side.
Why do my candle labels keep peeling off?
Usually wax film on the glass, which is invisible and stops the adhesive bonding. Clean the surface, label a cold candle rather than a warm one, and press from the center outward so no air is trapped.
