Who writes this
Scooter M.. An enthusiast who is genuinely into this. I read the manuals, compile the published specifications, and do the math. No lab coat.
That framing is deliberate and it is the honest one. I am not a chandler. I have no certification, no chemistry degree, and no trade body membership. I have not been doing this for twenty years and I am not going to imply that I have, because a byline that claims tenure is a claim someone can check.
What I do have is a habit of reading spec sheets, an interest in the places where published guidance contradicts itself, and enough patience to transcribe four wick charts into one table and work out where they disagree. That turns out to be the useful thing nobody was doing.
Why this site exists
Candle making has an unusual information problem. The people who genuinely know the most about it — the supply houses that have been selling wax and wicks for decades — publish excellent technical guidance, and they cannot compare across brands because they sell one set of them. The people who do compare across brands are mostly affiliate content farms, some of them writing about candles from domains that otherwise sell children’s furniture, and they make testing claims that do not survive a second look.
So there is a gap: on-topic, cross-brand, price-transparent, and open about what has not been tested. That gap is what this site is for.
The honest part

Everyone in this category says they burned forty candles. We have not burned any, and we say so.
What I did instead: compiled the published specifications for every product here, cross-referenced the wick charts, ran the wax and fragrance arithmetic, and pulled prices from the retailer. The full method is here.
What you can expect
- Every figure attributed. If a page says a wax melts at 113 to 118F, the publisher of that figure is named on the page and linked in the sources.
- The arithmetic shown. Wax weight, fragrance load, cost per candle, wasted wax from a tunnel. The formula is printed so you can reproduce it.
- Live prices, or none. Prices come from a data layer refreshed against the retailer. When it has nothing fresh, the page says check price and shows no number.
- A skip on every roundup. At least one product per roundup that I would not buy, with the specific reason.
- Not published, where that is the truth. That phrase appears on a lot of product specifications here, and every instance of it is a gap in what the maker printed rather than a gap in the research.
What you cannot expect
- Burn test results. I have not run any. Every chart on this site, including mine, gets you to a starting wick; only lighting the candle settles it.
- Scent opinions. I have not smelled these fragrance oils and my opinion of a good vanilla would be worth nothing to you. What the fragrance pages do instead is explain which fragrance families survive in wax and why, which is chemistry rather than taste.
- A score out of ten. A number implies a measurement. Products here are ranked with the reasoning written out.
- Classes or workshops. There is no venue and there are no classes.
The site
50 pages covering 50 products across six sections: kits, wax, wicks, fragrance, containers and equipment, and a set of guides for the process itself. The wick size chart is the page I would point at first — it is the piece of original work here, and the one I would still want to exist if the site earned nothing.
