Editorial

Editorial policy

The rules this site is written under, and the one it would be worth closing the site over.

Last reviewed September 2, 2026

Who writes this

Scooter M., an enthusiast. Not a chandler, not a certified anything, and not a team. Every page carries that byline because one person writes them. More on that here.

There is no editorial team, no expert panel and no external reviewer, and this site will not imply otherwise. A masthead that lists people who do not exist is the cheapest and most common fabrication in this category.

The commitment that matters most

No page on this site will ever claim hands-on testing we have not performed

Not “in our testing”, not “we burned forty candles”, not “after three months with this wax”. We have not done those things and saying we had would be a straightforward lie, a violation of the FTC’s endorsement guidance, and the single easiest claim on this site for anyone to falsify.

If this site ever does run burn tests, the pages will say exactly what was tested, how, and when. Until then the answer to “how do you know?” is always: from a published specification, from arithmetic shown on the page, or from a retailer’s live data.

How products are selected

  1. Products are chosen from what the retailer actually sells, verified against live listings, and identified by their real product identifiers. No product on this site was invented, and no identifier was guessed.
  2. Selection criteria are stated on each roundup and derive from the published method. They favor products whose makers publish the specifications a buyer needs.
  3. No product is included, excluded or ranked in exchange for payment, free samples, or any other consideration. We have received none of those.
  4. Every roundup includes at least one product we recommend against, with the specific reason and the specific buyer it is wrong for.
  5. Where no product honestly fits a page, the page carries none. Safety and troubleshooting content in particular is often better with nothing to buy on it.

Sourcing standards

  • Every published specification names its publisher on the page, and the publisher is listed with a link in the sources section at the bottom.
  • Where a figure is not published, the page says so. The phrase “not published” appears throughout this site and every instance is deliberate.
  • Where publishers disagree, both figures appear with their names attached. We do not average two published figures into a third that nobody printed.
  • Where we derive a figure ourselves, the page says it is a derivation and shows the arithmetic.
  • Prices come only from live retailer data, with a verification date. Never a remembered or estimated number.
  • Retailer star ratings, where shown, are attributed to the retailer and are never presented as our assessment.

What this site does not publish

  • Reviews or testimonials from customers. Wickcraft Co has no customers; it is a publisher.
  • Numeric scores out of ten, which imply a measurement we did not take.
  • Review or rating structured data for any product, for the same reason.
  • Credentials, certifications or professional titles, because we hold none.
  • Fabricated urgency, invented awards, or trust badges.
  • Sponsored content, paid placement, or guest posts written to place a link.

Corrections

If a figure here is wrong, we will correct it and date the correction visibly on the page rather than editing it silently. Material corrections — anything that would change a recommendation or a specification — are noted in the page text.

To report one, email info@wickcraftco.com. Include the page and the figure. If you are the manufacturer or supplier of a product we have described and we have transcribed one of your published figures incorrectly, we particularly want to hear from you.

Updates and freshness

Every page carries a visible last-reviewed date. Prices refresh daily, roundup order is revisited quarterly, specification tables and the wick chart twice yearly, and the seasonal pages annually ahead of the fourth quarter. The full cadence is on the methodology page.

The XML sitemap reports each page’s real content date, not the build timestamp. A sitemap claiming every page changed on every deploy is a signal nobody should trust, and we would rather keep the signal honest.

Independence

This site earns Amazon Associates commission and nothing else. That relationship is disclosed above the fold on every page carrying a product link, on every buy button, in the footer, and in full on the disclosure page.

Commission does not affect rank order or inclusion. The clearest evidence is structural: the equipment pages argue for a pouring pot over an electric melter that would earn several times the commission, and the kit pages argue that a kit stops being the right purchase after the first batch.

Safety content

Candle safety guidance on this site is drawn from published fire safety standards and manufacturer instructions, cited on the page. It is general information and not a substitute for the instructions supplied with a product you own. See candle safety and labeling.
