Containers are sold by fluid ounces, which is a volume. Wax is sold by pounds, which is a weight. Every beginner hits this conversion on their first order and there is no way around it, so here is the arithmetic with its assumptions stated.

Those figures assume you use every gram, which you will not. Subtract about one candle per batch for what stays in the pouring pot, on the spoon, and on the worktop.
Sizing an order so nothing runs out first
The useful version of this arithmetic runs the other way: given a bag of wax, how many jars should you buy so they finish together?
Adding fragrance changes the total
Fragrance load is a percentage of wax weight, and the oil adds to the finished volume. At an 8 percent load, an 8-ounce jar taking 6.4 ounces of wax also takes about 0.51 ounces of fragrance oil, and the two together slightly overfill your original estimate.

What that means
Two suppliers publish slightly different melt points for the same wax, 115 to 120F and 113 to 118F. That two-degree gap is normal for a natural wax and it is why you read your own pour temperature rather than trusting a single number.
Ten pounds is 160 ounces of wax, or roughly forty 4-ounce candles at the usual fill. That is a real supply, not a sample.
464 is a soy blend with additives that reduce frosting and hold fragrance better than straight soy. It is not the most natural wax on the shelf and it is not sold as one.

What that means
Seven fluid ounces of container takes roughly 5.6 ounces of soy wax by weight, at the 0.8 fill factor soy runs at. Sixteen jars is therefore about 5.6 pounds of wax - close to a 5 lb bag plus what stays in the pot.
The listing does not publish an internal diameter, and diameter is what the wick chart needs. Measure across the inside of the glass with a ruler before you order wicks.
Thick glass matters for a real reason: thin glass near a large flame is a crack risk, and a cracked candle jar is a fire.

Do you need a second pour
Soy contracts as it cools, and around the wick it often forms a small crater or a sinkhole. A second top-up pour of a few grams, once the first has set but is still warm, fills it. This is normal, it is not a sign you used too little wax, and single-pour waxes are formulated specifically to avoid it.
Budget about 5 percent extra wax if you know you will be topping up. It rounds into the one-candle-per-batch waste allowance above.
Weight, not volume
Weigh the wax on a kitchen scale. Do not measure it by volume: flakes, beads and pastilles have wildly different packing densities, so a cup of flakes and a cup of beads are not the same amount of wax. Every published fragrance load is a weight percentage and the whole calculation depends on the scale.

About 6.4 ounces of soy wax. Multiply the container capacity in fluid ounces by 0.8 to get the wax weight in ounces.
How many candles will 1 lb of wax make?
About five 4-ounce candles, or two 8-ounce candles. A pound is 16 ounces of wax, and an 8-ounce jar takes 6.4 ounces.
How many candles does 10 lb of wax make?
About twenty-five 8-ounce candles or fifty 4-ounce candles, before allowing for what stays in the pot.
Why is wax measured by weight and containers by volume?
Wax is sold as a bulk solid, which is weighed, and containers are sold by liquid capacity. The 0.8 factor converts between them for soy, based on soy being roughly 20 percent less dense than water.
Should I weigh wax or measure it by cups?
Weigh it. Flakes, beads and pastilles pack at very different densities, so the same cup holds different amounts of wax. Fragrance load is also a weight percentage, so a scale is required regardless.
